** Natures Antibiotic in Honey **
(non-alcoholic for kiddos or folks avoiding alcohol).
Contains Usnea Lichen, elderberries, autumn olive berries, pineapple and coconut flakes in raw organic honey and vinegar!
Usnea (Usnea Barbata) is a type of lichen which I purchased from Mountain Rose Herbs since it doesn’t grow here, and I know it’s gonna be really important in the coming times.
It has reported uses dating back to ancient Egypt where records have shown it being used to treat a variety of infections.
It contains a constituent called Usnic acid which has shown to be a powerful plant based antibiotic.
It has antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiprotozoal and anti fungal actions and has proven to be effective in treating staphylococcus, streptococcus and pneumonococcus infections.
Usnic acid can also be effective in treating viral infections and specific types of antibiotic resistant bacteria.
It’s my go to for a doxy replacement for Lyme since I can’t take doxy anymore.
It has an affinity for the lungs and respiratory system and can be used to treat lingering respiratory infections and coughs.
And is an excellent ally when dealing with Staph aureus (often present in people with atopic dermatitis (eczema), and other skin conditions such as boils, folliculitis, impetigo and cellulitis).
It can help to treat a variety of pathogens including bacteria which may be resistant to normal antibiotics, and has potent antiviral properties so can be used to treat a range of viruses.
It can help to fight various types of gastrointestinal bacterial infections too.
Autumn Olive Berries have a sour-sweet taste and are a little like morello cherries.
They contain vitamins A, C and E, minerals, phosphorous, magnesium, calcium, potassium and iron as well as the essential fatty acids and bioflavonoids.
Also very rich in the carotenoid, lycopene, which is currently of interest to medical researchers as it has exhibited strong possibilities as a deterrent to heart disease and cancers of the prostate, cervix, the gastrointestinal tract, and possibly ovarian cancer. (The lycopene content in the autumn olive fruit is 17 times higher than that in a tomato.)
Other carotenoids the berries contain are B-carotene, phytoene, and a- and b-cryptoxanthin.
The fruit also contains malic acid like the crab apple and when fully ripe has glucose and fructose present.
Evidence has strongly proven that malic acid can help mitigate pain associated with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. This acid also enhances tolerance to exercise, improve muscle endurance and stamina, thereby helps to ease chronic fatigue syndrome (thanks Mother Nature😉)!!
Elderberries are high in antioxidants and quercetin, anti-viral, reduces oxidative stress and has been extensively researched to show it kills the H1N1 flu virus!!
Studies demonstrate that quercetin can reduce both acute and chronic inflammation. One animal study also indicated that it might have anti-arthritis properties as well.
The biggest benefit of using antioxidants like quercetin for inflammation is that they have far more than just a superficial effect.
They get to one of the root causes of an inflamed body: oxidative stress.
This means a long-lasting reduction in overall inflammation levels- not just a short-term coverup of symptoms!!
I dehydrated the pineapple so I could powder it and add it to this honey, along with coconut flakes, both add a delicious flavor, but I add the pineapple for the high content of Vitamin C and The coconut because it contains protein, several important minerals, and small amounts of B vitamins.
This can be eaten right off the spoon (1/8th tsp 4x daily for one day, then 2x day for one week (adults), half that for children, pets or elderly, or added to your favorite tea😉…
